Managing Director - Richard B. Carter, Ph.D. has held senior management positions and established a successful record of drug discovery and development in both small biopharmaceutical (AlgoRx Pharmaceuticals, CoCensys) and large pharmaceutical (Novartis, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Purdue Pharma, Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals) companies.  Dr. Carter's career spans over 20 years of drug discovery and development across all aspects of nervous system research, including the advancement of therapeutic agents for psychiatric and neurologic disorders and pain management.  He was a founder of the emerging pain management company AlgoRx Pharmaceuticals (now Anesiva www.anesiva.com).  At the neuroscience therapeutics company CoCensys, he initiated and led the sodium channel inhibitor program that formed the basis for its acquisition by the leading pain company Purdue Pharma.  Dr. Carter has successfully advanced over 15 drugs into clinical development.

 

Director - Jon E. Hawkinson, Ph.D. has 15 years of experience in small molecule and biologics drug discovery, ranging from target identification to Pre-Clinical Development. At Elan Pharmaceuticals, he identified two Pre-Development Candidates for pain- a small molecule bradykinin B1 antagonist and an anti-NGF monoclonal antibody. He also managed external collaborations in the pain and inflammation therapeutic areas, built integrated assay development, HTS, and SAR Teams, and led in vitro pharmacology lead discovery and optimization for pain, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and multiple sclerosis. At CoCensys, Dr. Hawkinson identified new leads for nociceptin/ORL1, GABAA, and glutamate receptors for pain, anxiety, epilepsy, insomnia, and stroke. Dr. Hawkinson’s current clients include Reviva Pharmaceuticals, the Gladstone Institutes, and the Myelin Research Foundation. He has over 45 published research papers, review articles, and patents.
